WELCOME TO TROOP 648!

If you're new to Scouts and thinking about joining the program, or are currently a Cub Scout looking for a troop to join, we hope that you'll consider Troop 648.  Scouting is a great program, offering a wide range of opportunities for boys ages 11 - 17.  Boy Scout troops vary widely in size, activities, and programs.  When looking for a troop to join, it's important to make sure you have a "good fit" – that is, its leaders, its activities, and overall "feel" are a good match. Troop 648 sets our activities to best meet both the immediate and long term needs of our Scouts.

We strive to maintain a balanced program of activities throughout the year to challenge the Scouts both mentally and physically, emphasizing leadership and character development in the Scouting tradition. Our activities during the past year serve as examples of the program you can expect from Troop 648 in the years ahead (for a list of past activities, click on the “About Us” link in the menu on the left).

Scouting is far more than camping, hiking, and games. Scouting is also about character, values, and community service. Troop 648 emphasizes the values embodied in the Scout Law and our Scouts regularly participate in a wide range of community support activities.

We hope that Troop 648 will be part of your Scouting experience. Should you have any questions, or would like to arrange a visit to one of our troop meetings, please use the “Contact Us” link in the menu on the left.

Yours in Scouting,

Ron Lawrence, Scoutmaster

WEBELOS WOODS IS COMING November 4-6!

Posted on Nov 29 2011 - 6:41am

The sign-up for WEBELOS Woods is at the next Troop meeting (Oct. 25). Download the permission slip found in the files section on this website, fill it out, write a check for the camping amount and turn it in at the Troop meeting! This is a recruiting event and we need your help with making this campout a success... plus it is a lot of fun when Scoutmaster Lawrence cooks a full turkey dinner with all the trimmings (turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, pumpkin or pecan pie and whip cream topping)!

Adult Scout mandatory Hazardous Weather training

Posted on Jul 27 2011 - 11:01pm

In 2009, BSA made it mandatory that Hazardous Weather be added to the training that an Adult Scout would need to have in order to attend an outing. The expiration date for this training is not indicated on the certificate for the training and the only place that I can find it is on the new tour planning worksheet where is indicates that it is valid for 2 years (like YPT). Most adults took the training in the spring of 2009, therefore, your training is expired. If you regularly attend outings or are an adult leading an outing you need to have this training done. The training can be done on-line at myscouting.org and does not take long to complete. After you have completed the training please email it to Chuck Fabijanic so he can enter it into Troopmaster.

Acting Scoutmaster's

Hello Troop 648,

Like last year, I will be up at Mataguay Scout Ranch starting Thursday June 16 and coming back Aug 14.

In my absence you will have two Assistant Scoutmasters to call on for Scoutmaster Conferences and to run the troop meetings: Mr. Manny Powers (858) 780-0250 mpowers@san.rr.com and Mr. Robert Slavey (858) 829-7450 slavey@mac.com.

Everyone that went to Cherry Valley Summer Camp,

Posted on Jul 17 2011 - 7:13pm

For my Troop Historian file I want to include a sheet with comments about Cherry Valley and how great summer camp was this year. Future scouts should be able to use the file to decide if they want to go to Cherry Valley.(continued)
